Innovations are not only invented on Campus Groningen. The Campus itself often forms a testing ground, as is apparent from the laying of new 'ecofalt' on Zernike Campus last weekend, on the road De Mudden. Ecofalt is a sustainable alternative for regular asphalt. In ecofalt a binding agent on a plant basis is used. It is made and processed under cold conditions. This reduces the CO2 emission compared to regular asphalt. Also, the underlayer and interlayer are made out of 90% recycled demolition waste. This is the first pilot with ecofalt in the municipality of Groningen.
Pilot in Groningen
Ecofalt is developed by the eponymous startup form the BeStart program from Friesland, edition 2018. BeStart is an accelerator for cleantech startups. In the course of the program it became clear that it was not possible to find a launching customer in Friesland. A pilot on Campus Groningen succeeded in collaboration with Enablemi and the municipality of Groningen. Community manager Annet de Vree of Campus Groningen: "We're very glad that the Campus could facilitate this pilot together with the municipality of Groningen. Campus Groningen truly is a testing ground for innovative ideas and products." Ecofalt is now part of Abbink Boekelo Wegenbouw, a company with more than 25 years of experience in road construction.
